Work on the Dragon Rider

Thought I'd update you all with the 'ever more stuff to do' progress on all things Dragon-y.

This is the work on the Prince riding him...

And the start of work on the shield...
Undercoated black, painted with bestial brown, painted with several thinned coats of blazing orange, washed with gryphonne sepia. Then I started work on the gold!

Several coats of burnished gold, and a wash of black, and that's as far as this photo shows.

After this I've still got to do a wash of gryphonne sepia, drybrushed gold again and finally a very fine highlight of mithril silver.

It's not quite finished but most of the hard stuff is done, and all I need to do now is paint the wooden reverse of the shield and then the arm to stick it to!

And finally, some reins for the Dragon! He's really coming together now! =D

High Elf Dragon

The Dragon itself is finished! Now to start work on the rider.... *phew*

I decided on a very pale dragon, in order to contrast with the bright orange and golds of my usual army colour scheme. The blue tones in the scales and wings contrast with the orange too, I use blue as my accent colour. Hopefully it'll all come together once everything's finished!

Behold! Completed High Elf Lion Chariot

Finally, all based, neat, shiny and photographed at last.

Now I just have to work out how I'm going to transport it... Rapidly running out of space in my army box...

Also a little update on Dragon things.. OOOOH.

And I treated myself. I just couldn't help it.

These will make my army a little more fluffy and Dragon like, due to them all coming from Caledor.

24 Hour Painting Challenge

After partaking in a 24 Hour Painting Challenge on The Underempire, I thought I'd let you all know how it went. I didn't quite manage 24 hours, closer to 12 as I crashed out part way through, but I did manage to finish everything I'd planned.

Here's what I started out with, in lots of little pieces! The Island of Blood Mage, and two Charioteers.

And here's the finished results. Apologies for the bright photos, I need to edit them and re-upload. My camera was having an off day....

I really enjoy challenges like these as you chat the whole time to your forum members online, as well as getting lots done in the allotted time. Normally I procrastinate and paint lots of little things on lots of different models and there seems to be not a lot done rather than completing a single model. This way allows you to focus on a few models and get them done totally and much more satisfying. Can't wait til the next one!

Update - Lion Chariot & HE Mage

I now have a grand total of FIVE, yes five Mages. I just buy them because they're good to paint, and pretty okay? I can't help it.

So that's four Mages on foot and one Mage mounted, used as an Archmage.

I bought the Island of Blood Mage off ebay, and I'm SO happy that I did. The details and the swishyness of the cloaks... ah, I'm in heaven.

However! He has only been undercoated while my other most recent Mage is still a more complete WIP.

Here he is in two stages of painting. Nearly finished but not quite. Still not sure on basing techniques. And now he needs a name! Every other character in my Army is named so I shall begin working on him right away.

Also another update on the Chariot. I finally got around to painting the chariot itself, and I'm pretty happy with it. The best I've ever managed to get pale/polished wood to look anyway!

I think I might purchase more from the Island of Blood set... the Prince on Griffon looks much more dynamic than any of the older metal models, and somewhat easier to tinker with/convert to suit my army. As do the Reavers, though I may get those just for the horses, if not anything else.

Over the weekend, along with a family do, I'm planning on partaking in a painting challenge for 24 Hours. I have already undercoated models in preparation and shall keep you posted. Hopefully, little by little, everything I've still got sat naked in the box, will be colourful by the end of the week!

WIP - White Lions & Mages

Bugger it, I've broken my bolt thrower....

Not just out of the blue, but I was attempting to repair it, make it look a lot better than it does already. Never mind, currently looking for a new one.

In other news, I've made a new crew for the thrower, and done a little more work on the chariot. Photos of lions, coming up! The chariot itself is in no condition to be photographed... plus it's oddly tricky to angle and get the look of right with it's still a WIP. Just imagine lots of brown shades of paint and brown/black washes in various stages of work. That's about where I'm at.

Again mainly it's the lions, I think I'm happy with them now. I'm keeping the colours quite dark, more typical lion colouration rather than 'white' lions. I think it'll work better with the oranges and gold, yet the pale wood colour of the chariot itself.

ALSO!
Update on a very long WIP, another mage for the collection. He's just got base colours at the moment and a simple black wash. Hopefully more to be worked on towards the end of the week.

Not related to my elves, but another project recently started; and finished for that matter, my Lexmechanic.

Also is it just me who works on multiple models at a time, in between coats of paint and washes while they dry, do a little dabble on another model?

Chariots of fire!

Finally plucked up the courage to get on and finish my lion chariot, horaaah.

I decided to go with a more natural lion fur, as opposed to the usual white lions. I think white would wash out the other colours in my army scheme and make it all a bit wishy washy... orange and gold calls for something a little warmer.

So here we go, lion number one.

Having not painted fur or animals in a while I decided to print off some photos of actual lions to follow and try and match the colourations.

So far, this lion has been basecoated in Bestial Brown, then washed with Badab Black, followed by a mix of Bestial Brown and Kommando Khaki as another colour layer, and a wash of Devlan Mud.

I'm working on going lighter gradually. Another mixed layer of colour and another wash of maybe Gryphonne Sepia.

In other news, I've decided I don't like waiting for the washes to dry, and so have started my Lexmechanic, in my Sister Order colours...

It's the very first coat of colour, but if you can't tell, the robes are blue and then I'm working on rusty gold-y coloured metal work and very pale, possibly blue-y hued skin tones for him too =)

Long time no tea...

First things first, how annoyed am I with the fact the Dark Elf dragon is cooler than my High Elf dragon? The pose is much more dynamic... ah man....

Second thing, I passed my first year at uni and now have three months of summer to kill!
Lot's of painting planned and I'm already looking at more models online. Naughty really, I should paint what I've got first.

My brother has re-adopted some figures now I've moved out, so I no longer have the Waywatchers to paint, just more of my own stuff. I'm hoping to get the chariot finished as well as a few other smaller bits and pieces.

This is the plan, and I'll let you know how I get on from there.
